Now there’s a Wordle for Star Wars – meet SWordle

The incredible success of Wordle has led to developers paying homage to the addictive formula. Some of the alternatives to Wordle now include Mathler, which tests your head for equations, and Worldle (sic.), which tests your geographical knowledge by replacing words with country outlines.

Now there’s a new contender specifically designed for Star Wars megafans: SWordle. Created by Aurebesh Files, it is a Wordle where only words with a reference to a galaxy far, far away are accepted. And it comes complete with a delete key in the shape of a millennium falcon.

It follows the same rules as Wordle, where green indicates the right letter in the right place and yellow indicates the right letter in the wrong place when you’re trying to identify a five-letter word in six or fewer guesses. Oh, and numbers are allowed for droid-related reasons.

On the surface, it should be easier. While a Wordle could choose any of the approximately 9000 five-letter words accepted by the latest version of the Scrabble dictionary, there are only a limited number of possibilities with obvious Star Wars connotations. EWOKS, ENDOR VADER, FORCE, XWING – you know the drill.

But, to be fair, only mega-fans of Star Wars are eligible to apply – and that obviously doesn’t include me, given my limited success over the past two days. Yesterday’s winning word was FISTO – or Keith Fisto, a minor character in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Without wanting to give away the game, today’s is even more obscure and doesn’t require a particularly long entry on the Star Wars fandom wiki (spoilers, obviously).

If Star Wars isn’t your thing, there are other niche Wordle clones. Lordle Of The Rings follows the same formula, but words like MORDOR and BILBO are considered acceptable, while Squirdle is a great alternative for Pokemon fans.

It’s fair to say that none of these more niche offerings are likely to be snapped up by the New York Times like the original Wordle, but hope is eternal. “Who wants to buy SWordle? I’ll take seven figures any day,” the creators jokingly tweeted.
